Filiz is a small shop tucked away in one of the historic buildings in the heart of Hudson, New York, open since June 2018. It's not just a lifestyle shop featuring the creative work of skilled artisans, it’s also the working art studio of Filiz Soyak, a mixed media artist and designer. Her international upbringing and mixed heritage influence everything in the space – a mix of Scandinavian and Japanese minimalism and Turkish soul – a carefully curated collection of items, old and handmade, sourced from around the world. The artwork that adorns the walls are hers, but every other item is chosen for the story behind the maker, the process, the heritage, or the place it comes from. Filiz opened the shop with a mission to share thoughtfully handcrafted and culturally significant goods with others.
Filiz has been exhibiting and selling her work internationally since 2000. Her current work can best be described as mindful, minimalist, and intuitive. It’s about letting go and trusting the creative process, a transformation encouraged by the birth of her daughter in 2016.
